La Frattina
Monte San Martino, Le Marche

La Frattina is an imposing old farmhouse which was built in local Marchegianian stone around two hundred years ago. Secluded in a naturally sheltered position, it is very privately situated with wonderful views which extend in a panoramic vista of the Sibillini mountains.

The 11 metre swimming pool is surrounded by lawn and lush trees. A sun shelter provides welcome shade in the heat of the day. This area is most attractively situated and complements the general feeling of peace and tranquillity which will pervade your stay here. The house offers splendid accommodation for a maximum of twelve people.

There are six bedrooms on the second floor, three doubles, three twin and three bathrooms. On the ground floor is a large and spacious drawing room with open fireplace and ample seating from which French windows open onto the garden terrace. Furniture throughout is of good quality with some antique pieces. The dining room also has French windows opening onto a gravelled terrace where it is delightful to sit at any time of day, eating or drinking, or just simply gazing out at the stunning views of the Sibillini mountains far off on the distant horizon.

Monte San Martino is about two kilometres away. It is a very quiet village with a bar, bakery, Post Office, and pharmacy as well as an excellent small restaurant. Prince Charles amongst others has made the journey to Monte San Martino to see the fabulous Crivelli triptych in the village church which is now restored.

It is a forty kilometre journey to the university city of Macerata, worth a visit at any time, but of particular interest to opera lovers when the annual open air Opera Festival is staged during July and August at the Sferesterio. On the programme for 2003 are La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor and Cavalleria Rusticana. (phone us for further details) The nearby town of Amandola has shops, banks, restaurants and a lively market on Wednesday mornings. Sarnano is an attractive old spa town to visit.

The area is studded with small hilltop towns and villages where it is always possible to find a welcoming bar and usually some delightful views. For those who want to be active, this area is known for its walking terrain. From the foothills of the Sibillini to the plain of Castellucio there is a wide range available. The sea is easily reached and the nearest seaside town is Porto san Giorgio where there is a long beach with many excellent seafood restaurants. However, with the comfort, peace and tranquillity on offer at La Frattina which is available to rent all year round, you may not want to move very far at all!
